Ok so I have ten minutes to do a quick post ( the hostel here in Banos has a time limit for the internet so I will probably add to it on the next week or so!
DAY 15 - 18 - THE AMAZON
After a nightbus from Quito arriving in a town on the outskirts of the amazon called Lago Agrio, then another 2.5 hour bus from there and a two hour boat ride up the river we arrived at our Lodge. We went with a budget lodge which had no electricity, so it was candles and torches at night. This added to the experience I thought. It is one of the only places where I have experienced true darkness, totally pitch black. With all the bugs around it was probably fo the best - ignorance is bliss as they say!
All in all it was an amazing experience, something which I have dreamed about doing for a longtime, it deffinitely lived up to my expectations and will take some beating on the top life experience list!! I think next time I will go mad and buy a boat and go down it myself! Whose with me?
PS: sorry for the probably horrific spellings, spanish spell check is no good for my english, also having to do this quickly!

DAY 19 - 21 : QUILOTOA LOOP
YAY We´re inside a volcano
I am so pleased to see that you are taking health and safety measures seriously. .and are keeping fit (and clean?) by swimming in the... .would that be the same Amazon river as the one where there are anaconda, piranha, alligator and monster fish ? Looks like a huge set of bubbles next to you ...aargh. Seriously though, it looks amazing xxx
ReplyDeleteYes I know it is the same water as where alll those things live....something I had to get my head around. The conversation went like this.....
DeleteMe: so piranha and caymen and anacondas all eat people

Me: aaannnd you want us to go swimming in it
Guide: Yes
Me: ok....
so cool to see you at all the places I visited when I was there!! so beautiful! hope you guys are having a blast! :) Which lodge did you stay in? And where are you staying in Banos- you HAVE to hire bikes and cycle down the road into the jungle (you can get the bus back!) there are loads of waterfalls and stuff on the way.. and you should go and get breakfast at Plantas Y Blancas- SO SO SO amazingly yummy and beautiful! And go to the baths (obvs!). And rafting too if you have time! xx
ReplyDeleteWe are staying there lol! Had the brekkie but im not keen on papaya...still love granola though. And we hired bikes yesterday and saw lots of waterfalls and got lost and very wet. Both our brakes broke - not ideal, so we called it a day near waterfall san francisco! We stayed at samoa lodge, it was really good value for money! Not sure if we have time for rafting as we are leaving for the north coast today! Hope all is well xox
